im a got7 fan but i really dont feel like got7 is that popular or deserves to win MAMA 2014. like around the world kinda sucked and the music just flopped. they also only prmoted for like 3 weeks? and just like u said what exactly DID happen to so lucky?? idek jyp is totally screwing them over , but i feel like mark and jackson should just make a duo and then theyll be super famous. everyone else is kind of not that popular (in my opinion). im still a fan but thats just what i think

Hello anon,

You are absolutely entitled to your opinion, and I’m glad that you asked me about this. However, I tried really, really hard not to get upset over some of the things you wrote, and I hope I say this in a manner that is not meant to hurt others, but to provide another perspective on some popular opinions amongst IGOT7s.

  • Around the World kind of sucked.

I agree that not a lot of people liked it, but Around the World is one of the songs that I’m personally very, very proud of. The boys had to learn Japanese (even though the foreign members were already struggling to learn Korean) and they decided to do a Japanese debut with an entirely new song. Instead of just making a “Girls Girls Girls” or “A” Japanese version, which would have saved a lot of time and money, they decided to go forward with a entirely brand new concept in Japan. They had to learn new tricking moves, lyrics, and choreography, in addition to the fact that they were probably practising for “Identify” at the same time. In my opinion, the point of ATW wasn’t exactly the song. It was meant to emphasize the tricking & dance moves, as well as exemplify the “energy” that GOT7 possesses. And that’s why I feel that even though the reception for Around the World wasn’t all that great, they worked so hard on it that I personally felt like it was a wonderful comeback.

  • JYP is totally screwing them over.

I’ll admit I don’t always agree with JYP’s musical direction, but one thing that is absolutely true is that GOT7 completely respects JYP. Not just because he’s essentially their boss and the person that made them famous, but also because of all the experience he has and how musically talented he is. JYP really, genuinely, knows his musical shit. He’s actually trained in musical theory (especially classical music) and he also has immense entertainment experience and business skills. He’s helped them pave the way to success, and he’s provided them the training and advice to exemplify their musical strengths. By saying that JYP is “screwing them over,” you’re also disrespecting GOT7 because they truly regard him as both a role model and a mentor. JYP can’t always be perfect. Fans aren’t always going to agree with him. But the fact is that he’s rooting for GOT7 just as hard as we are, and since he’s overseen them from audition to debut, he deserves much of the credit it helping GOT7 become who they are today.

  • Mark and Jackson should just make a duo and then they’ll be super famous.

It’s true that lots of people love Markson, and that they have lots of potential to become a two-member group. However, this statement completely disregards the time and effort the other members, especially JJ Project, have put into helping them and encouraging them. JB, who is the exact same age as them, is forced to lead 6 different personalities. He has never had the time to be taken care of by the other members, because he’s too busy trying his best to help the others do well. While JB provides stability for the group, Jinyoung ensures that the boys are doing well emotionally. It’s obvious that Mark struggled immensely coming to Korea, especially because it was a very new culture for him, and I’m positive without Jinyoung’s help Mark wouldn’t be able to relax as much as he is now on stage and in front of the camera. GOT7 cannot be GOT7 without the other members. It’s okay to have a subunit, but ignoring the other members is ridiculous, especially as all of them, including Bambam, Youngjae, and Yugyeom, play such an important role in the group. Please also consider how uncomfortable Mark and Jackson would feel if people told them to become a duo in exchange for dropping GOT7. They are not just a band - they are a family, and we should respect the closeness between the seven members.

As fans of GOT7, there has to be less of this “subjective nitpicking” that goes on. It’s okay to dislike something. Simply put, if something isn’t your taste, then it isn’t. But it’s not okay to blame other people such as JYP for these problems, or be so concerned about one’s own opinions that they forget about how hard GOT7 has worked this year. I’m very disappointed that some IGOT7s are spending time complaining about how many comebacks the boys have had or how their concepts don’t suit them, instead of voting for them for MAMA 2014, cheering them on because they must be extremely tired, and quietly encouraging them as best as they can. If you truly, truly love GOT7, please have more empathy for the members.

The boys give us so much happiness. Let’s try our hardest to return that happiness back to them.
